Five-step normative growth-trajectory ladder for the local church developed by Exponential (exponential.org): Subtracting → Plateauing → Adding → Reproducing → Multiplying. URIs are GC-curated representations of an Exponential-owned framework — Exponential does not publish RDF URIs, so this scheme provides stable identifiers for cross-org reference while attributing the source via dct:source. Result-value is a single concept recorded via gc:exponentialLevel on gc:AssessmentResult. Distinct from gc:EkklesiaLifecycleScheme (descriptive life-arc) — see editorialNote and the asymmetric closeMatch/relatedMatch links on Multiplying and Reproducing.

Code Label Definition
EXPFL-ADD Adding The church grows through addition — new disciples, new attendees, new members joining the existing body. Growth is measurable but is happening within the single-congregation form: the existing body gets larger rather than spawning new bodies. Most attractional church-growth strategy targets this level.
EXPFL-MUL Multiplying The church reproduces multipliers — daughter churches that themselves plant. Multi-generational reproduction is the apex of the Five Levels ladder. The defining mark is generational depth: the church's planting work has produced grandchildren, not just children. Exponential frames Multiplying as a movement-level posture, not just a one-time event.
skos:closeMatch to gc:LifecycleMultiplying — both apex concepts describe verifiable multi-generational reproduction. Not exactMatch: GC's Multiplying stage requires explicit gc:fulfillsCommitment / gc:wasSentFrom links to daughter ekklesia, while Exponential's Multiplying is attested by the assessing organization's judgment of the trajectory.
EXPFL-PLA Plateauing The church is flat — not growing, not declining. Stable membership and rhythms but no measurable advance through evangelism or new disciple formation. Exponential identifies this as the largest single category in the North American context and frames it as the cohort with the highest opportunity cost — bodies with capacity to grow that are not growing.
EXPFL-REP Reproducing The church plants daughter churches or sends out planters. Growth is now spawning new ekklesia, not just enlarging the existing body. Exponential treats this as the threshold between addition and multiplication — first-generation reproduction. A church that has planted one daughter is Reproducing; the question for Multiplying is whether the daughter will reproduce in turn.
skos:relatedMatch (not closeMatch) to gc:LifecycleMultiplying — single-generation reproduction is adjacent to but distinct from the verifiable multi-generational multiplication that gc:LifecycleMultiplying requires. See the Reproducing-vs-Multiplying disambiguation in this scheme's editorialNote.
EXPFL-SUB Subtracting The church is in net decline — losing more members than it is gaining. Membership, attendance, and engagement are trending down across multiple measurement periods. Exponential frames this as 'survival mode' — the body is consuming energy on its own preservation rather than generating new disciples or new ekklesia.
